A quick comment, though - how many people who drink coffee for its caffeine drink only 8 ounces of coffee at a time?
Don't forget, however, that rest is a blessing from God:
Psalm 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
And, should you use coffee, don't try to take away your friend's blessing:
Proverbs 27:14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
And don't use coffee simply for your own pleasure:
Isaiah 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

I believe that the official "cup" is only 6 ounces. A "mug" is 12 oz.
ReplyDeleteI tend to have 3 or 4 mugs in the morning... regardless of what time I went to bed or what time I got up.
I'll never forget the time, a few weeks ago, when a co-worker came into an early meeting with a cup of coffee in hand and said, "It's my morning blessing!"
... at lunch that day she tripped on a wrinkled rug at a restaurant and fell, shattering her arm and dislocating/tearing her shoulder.
I can't decide if it is irony, or a lesson to be sure to count every blessing.

Isaiah 5's "strong drink" is something alcoholic. Whether it be "Irish coffee" with an injudicious level of contribution from Mr. Bailey or Jamison, or the more typical jug o' wine, the point is that these people get up early for the purpose of over-indulging in the good things that God has given, and yet (as verse 12 tells us) "they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands."
