Comment Guidelines:
1. Thanks for posting a comment. Without you, this blog would not be interactive.
2. Please be polite. That doesn't mean you have to use kid gloves, but please try not to flame others, even if they are heretics, infidels, or worse.
3. If you insult me, I'm more likely to delete your comment than if you butter me up. After all, I'm human. I prefer praise to insults. If you prefer insults, there's something wrong with you.
4. Please be concise. The comment box is not your blog. Your blog is your blog. If you have a really long comment, post it on your blog and post a short summary of it here.
5. Please don't just spam. It's one thing to be concise, it's another thing to simply use the comment box to advertise.
6. Please note, by commenting here, you are relinquishing your (C) in your comments to me.
7. Remember that you will give an account on judgment day for your words, including those typed in comment boxes. Try to write so you will not be ashamed if it is read back before the entire world.
8. Stay on topic. If your comment has nothing to do with the post, email it to me (my email can be obtained through my blogger profile), or simply don't post it.
9. Don't post as "Anonymous." If you are going to post anonymously, at least use some kind of recognizable "handle," so we can tell you apart from all the other anonymous folks. (This is moot at the moment, since recent abuse has forced me to turn off "anonymous" commenting.)
10. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; and abstain from doing to others what you would not wish upon yourself.
Hello TF, I infer from your profile that you have a connection to folks in that part of world. I will keep the people of both Georgia and Russia in my prayers this week.
ReplyDeleteGod bless!
Yes,
ReplyDeleteI went and prayed for our brothers and sisters in the middle of this ungodly conflict specifically because of your post.
What did Jesus say?:Luk 23:27 And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him.
Luk 23:28 But turning to them Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Luk 23:29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!'
Luk 23:30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us,' and to the hills, 'Cover us.'
Luk 23:31 For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?"
What did Hosea say?:
Hos 10:8 The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars, and they shall say to the mountains, "Cover us," and to the hills, "Fall on us."
Hos 10:9 From the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not the war against the unjust overtake them in Gibeah?
Hos 10:10 When I please, I will discipline them, and nations shall be gathered against them when they are bound up for their double iniquity.
My guess is if there is ever a time for the Church to rise up and muster aid for Believers in Christ, now would be such a time!
My guts ache as I pray over this matter!
Finally this admonition might be in order?:
Psa 50:14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,
Psa 50:15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."
Paul did say it this way:
1Th 5:17 pray without ceasing,
1Th 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I don't know whether to believe the reports, but I saw one encouraging headline this morning saying that Russia had indicated that Georgia had been sufficiently punished.
ReplyDeleteTo what extent does the recent Triablogue discussion on praying for Ted Kennedy have on this?
ReplyDeleteWould we argue that these are, in general (but not in every particular) unbelieving nations rather than unbelieving and blasphemous individuals at stake here?
Rhology,
ReplyDeleteI don't see a particularly close similiarity to the Tedd Kennedy situation.
Basically, I was asking for prayer, because:
a) Prayers for peace have explicit Scriptural warrant;
b) I personally feel love for the peoples of Russia and Georgia (and consequently dislike it when they kill each other); and
c) I think the Muslim nations will perceive this as per my subject line: Christians fighting Christians, which brings shame to the name of Christ.
I don't recall in the discussion of Ted Kennedy anyone arguing that we must not pray for him, and I hope no one would suggest the same thing here.
Perhaps, however, you would like to elaborate.

Well, these are largely Orthodox nations. Russia is largely secular and highly murderous in general towards its babies. The Russian military is, um, suspect, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I meant. Obvious differences are that these are NATIONS, rather than an individual...
It's interesting that you state that Russia is "highly murderous toward its babies."
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, Russian law is more protective of babies than the law of most "Western" nations, with "on request" abortions being prohibited after the first 12 weeks.
What few people know is that although the Russian revolution expiremented with abortion on demand, in 1936 Stalin absolutely prohibited abortion, and that ban continued to be enforced until his death.
But in the end, babies are killed at a higher rate in Russia than in many other places. It's very sad, and a great sin.

Mr. Burgess,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment you provided with a prayer. I haven't published it yet, because I'd like to suggest a few changes, but this will take me more time than I have at present. In any event, I appreciate your concern, and the compliment you pay me of mentioning my request in the same breath with the other.

To be clear: there are blogs that deal with politics. This is not one of those blogs.
