2. Please be polite. That doesn't mean you have to use kid gloves, but please try not to flame others, even if they are heretics, infidels, or worse.
3. If you insult me, I'm more likely to delete your comment than if you butter me up. After all, I'm human. I prefer praise to insults. If you prefer insults, there's something wrong with you.
4. Please be concise. The comment box is not your blog. Your blog is your blog. If you have a really long comment, post it on your blog and post a short summary of it here.

6. Please note, by commenting here, you are relinquishing your (C) in your comments to me.
7. Remember that you will give an account on judgment day for your words, including those typed in comment boxes. Try to write so you will not be ashamed if it is read back before the entire world.
8. Stay on topic. If your comment has nothing to do with the post, email it to me (my email can be obtained through my blogger profile), or simply don't post it.
9. Don't post as "Anonymous." If you are going to post anonymously, at least use some kind of recognizable "handle," so we can tell you apart from all the other anonymous folks. (This is moot at the moment, since recent abuse has forced me to turn off "anonymous" commenting.)

"Reformed apologists have taken over the formal debate scene..."
ReplyDeleteWhich might just lead one to believe that they have strong arguments.
I watched this video last night over at aomin. I honestly hadn't laughed out loud at the computer in awhile before watching this.
ReplyDeleteI guess Dr. Caner will debate anyone, anywhere, anytime, as long as his opponent isn't James White.
Perhaps the worst part is the poor reflection this casts on Liberty University. I mean, this guy is a seminary president? Egads!
I feel sorry for the students.

ReplyDeleteI deleted your slanderous comment.
In the Christian religion (unlike whatever religion you follow) we don't allow that kind of thing.

CD,
ReplyDeletewe must be different sorts because after watching it I realized the severity of the Gospel has been taken out of his message, the baptist fella and reality of the severity with which the other fella implicitly is proposing we are treated, True Believers and Followers of Christ in this world devils full.
Both camps bring to the table serious delusion, don't you think?
It gives me pause to wonder, how did that happen?
But with Dr. White's assistance and forewarnings, you are right, it just made both a bit more humorous/the baptist and pallitable/the Muslim, when watching the various levels of contrast in that clip!
White is such a smart allec jerk with his facial expressions. What does belittling Caner personally and attacking whether or not he's a good 'debater' do towards bringing glory to Christ? All Calvinists know how to do is attack Christians and do so more pompously than any atheist.

I didn't see Dr. White belittling Dr. Caner, I saw him examining Caner's claim about formal debates being "taken over by myopic Reformed guys [who] turn it into these little, uh, show ponies, it's like the Jerry Springer Show, basically, and there's really not any real discussion going on, there's rolling of eyes, its huffing and passive/aggressive garbage" over and against actual formal debates in which Dr. White has participated.
Dr White also examined Caner's claims that he's debated all over the world, and has a standing rule to "debate anyone, anytime, anywhere", even though there's a dearth of evidence supporting these claims.
Seeking and telling the truth honors Christ and brings Him glory.
All Calvinists know how to do is attack Christians and do so more pompously than any atheist.
By this are you suggesting that Calvinists are not Christians? The statement doesn't really make sense otherwise since it would be understood to mean All Christians know how to do is attack Christians...
Again, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's only your opinion.

B2k8,
ReplyDeletewhen you read Jesus's behavior in the Gospels, does it strike you that Jesus was more concerned with truth, or more concerned with not "attacking" (to use your word) others? I read Him constantly hammering emphasis on truth, truth, truth, while also constantly offending his fellow religious people by calling them sons of snakes, calling them sons of the devil, portraying them in a negative light, aiming parables at them, etc.
One thing I appreciate about Dr. White's apologetics is that he exhibits the same priorities that (at least as I see it) Jesus exhibited about the truth. Those priorities are hard to find in believers nowadays.
Dr. Caner is obviously being dishonest, and that's a really sad situation for both him and his seminary. Who knows, maybe Dr. Caner will wake up tomorrow and realize he needs to admit it. He might even thank Dr. White for calling him out on it. Stranger things have happened...like Saul on the road to Damascus.

ReplyDeleteYour slanderous, and frankly idiotic, comment claiming that Ergun Mehmet Caner lied about being a former Muslim has been deleted. See my comment to Anonymous above.

It's amazing that Ergun Caner can throw out a comment on national radio about Calvinism being from Hell..Brian Broderson can go on national radio and claim Calvinism "lacks the heart of Jesus". Well, if it's from Hell and..or..lacks the heart of Jesus, then according to them it's not Christian. It is no jump to get to that conclusion. If it is from Hell/without the heart of Jesus it is NOT Christian. So, these false, polarizing and frankly hurtful claims get made by these two men..James White responds and it is James who get's painted as being divisive for calling for truth out of both of them. UNBELIEVABLE! I hope Dr. White continues to call for truth in ALL claims made by influential leaders.
