John 14:13-14 (KJV)
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
The modern versions maintain this, but go one step further:
John 14:13-14 (ESV)
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
Notice that the ESV specifies that Jesus is the recipient of the prayer. Thus, not only is the prayer through Jesus, but also to Jesus in the modern versions. This is even more evidence that Jesus is divine, since it would be inappropriate to pray to a mere creature.
Is this a lock-tight argument in every aspect? Obviously not. The argument relies on a question of a textual variant. Nevertheless, as past of a cumulative case of evidence of Jesus' divinity, it is useful to know.

ReplyDeleteOf course I am not fully aware of who you are arguing this to seeing I am not in that loop following.
One thing comes to me after pondering this post the last few days though and it is this:::>
One knows themselves and others by the fruit they bear. The fruit that is born out of the argument or assertion of Christ's divinity and "who" is the OWNER of that fruit can be understood more fully from the following story in Matthew 21:
Mat 21:33 "Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country.
What is it about this parable that establishes you and me as Christ's servants and friends and not our own personal servant and friend doing ourselves favors and taking what is not ours as our inheritance? The workers of the Devil do that and doing that they establish by so doing the Divinity of Christ or the work His servants and friends do during harvest season are of the Divine Nature, chosen by God to work the Work of harvest. We know one another by our fruit bearing.
The Master of the House is the rightful owner of the true fruit of the vineyard.
Notice something:::>
Mat 21:38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.'
The true fruit is the inheritance of Master of the House, that vineyard He sends His workers into to equip or develop or cultivate or mature then harvest when the fruit is ready to be harvested.
Who is against this? Those wretched workers:::>
Mat 21:40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?"
Mat 21:41 They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons."
The HOUSE is made up of both Jews and Gentiles and is God's HOUSE, not the devil's. The vineyard fruit produced is God's fruit not the devil's. Those who are with Christ are the Divine workers and they are distinguished by the work they work to harvest for the Master of the HOUSE the fruit that is His not the devil's.
Today you can know a pastor is a Divinely appointed Pastor because a Divinely appointed pastor after he cleans his hands from working in the vineyard all day long has one sole desire, that is, to see the fruit equipped, healthy and mature readied to be GIVEN TO THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE and not himself at harvest time.
There are some in the pastorate who do not want to share the fruit with God. They want the fruit all for themselves.
