At Against Heresies, Martin Downes has provided some thoughts on theology in general including some interesting quotations on the subject of theology as well as its relation to the Creator/Creature distinction. (source)

  1. Well first things first then:

QUOTE: "....We are going to feel incredibly small and ignorant, shallow and sinful.....".

Little does this fella know me. After reading that I thought to myself, hmmmmm, I am far worse than that! :)

QUOTE: "....There is however an important caveat to be added before we set off. Even if we started out in our thinking with God's eternal existence “in himself” we have to remember that even our knowledge of God in himself is our knowledge of God as creatures. It is a knowledge that is dependent on God's disclosure to us of that inner eternal Trinitarian life that he has as God...."

Hmmmmmm, I get a sense this guy has an understanding that sharpens the sense to discern between good and evil, something I desire daily. Ok, here we go, reading, reading, reading! :)

I would add though that according to Paul the Apostle, we are atheists before we "know" God:::>

Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands--
Eph 2:12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

    "....without God in the world.".

Isn't that the mindset of a Gentile or Jewish atheist?

Believing in the false gods of this world, which there are plenty, is true atheism, isn't it?

Anyway, I have an advantage in reading this as does every Born Again, Spirit Filled Believer "living" with God's Living Hope. We now have a finite knowledge of Our Infinite God that increases in Grace and a True Knowledge of Them.

To say we don't know God when we do know Him, would be lying. To say we know God when we don't know Him, would be lying. We ought to not lie. Lying is a sin.

2. Please be polite. That doesn't mean you have to use kid gloves, but please try not to flame others, even if they are heretics, infidels, or worse.

3. If you insult me, I'm more likely to delete your comment than if you butter me up. After all, I'm human. I prefer praise to insults. If you prefer insults, there's something wrong with you.

4. Please be concise. The comment box is not your blog. Your blog is your blog. If you have a really long comment, post it on your blog and post a short summary of it here.

5. Please don't just spam. It's one thing to be concise, it's another thing to simply use the comment box to advertise.

6. Please note, by commenting here, you are relinquishing your (C) in your comments to me.

7. Remember that you will give an account on judgment day for your words, including those typed in comment boxes. Try to write so you will not be ashamed if it is read back before the entire world.

8. Stay on topic. If your comment has nothing to do with the post, email it to me (my email can be obtained through my blogger profile), or simply don't post it.

9. Don't post as "Anonymous." If you are going to post anonymously, at least use some kind of recognizable "handle," so we can tell you apart from all the other anonymous folks. (This is moot at the moment, since recent abuse has forced me to turn off "anonymous" commenting.)
