Jerome - Scriptures are the Foundation, Law, and Authority

Jerome, Letter 152 (to Riparius)

Nor am I moved by their writings, which I do not know, since I know that the will indeed of blasphemy is most wicked, but that they have not the strength of prudence and eloquence — especially also [not] the knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, which are the foundation of the faith, and the law of the ecclesiastical forum, and the authority of the ancestors.

Riparius was a priest to whom Jerome annually wrote, although only four of the letters survive (per Andrew Cain).
