Piper and the God we Worship

David at Thirsty Theologian has republished Piper's thoughts relative to the issue of the God we worship (link). As David points out, Piper's explanation is the reason Vatican II cannot possibly be right.

I am a bit dense here TF. I went to the link and read Piper. I didn't catch the connection. I do not accept Vatican 2 or 1 or 0 or 10 or anything from Rome unless it is the Gospel Paul preached and wrote about to the Galatians.

Could you help this poor soul out and connect the dots to Vactican and Piper?

It might possibly be I did not click onto a link in the Thirsty Theologian blog correctly to follow a thread where Piper develops his thought?

thanks

Dear NatAmLLC,

Sorry for the confusion. The connection is this ... as Piper rightly points out, we cannot truly know God and deny the Son of God.

Yet Vatican II claims that Catholicism worships the same God as Islam. Meanwhile, it is central to Islam to deny the Son.

As Scripture puts, 1Jn 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father:

I knew that! :)

I just couldn't or wouldn't put two and two together between the four of us, you, me, and those two, David and John with regard to Islamic beliefs and Rome/the papacy and the gospel they preach with such broad strokes only.

At the end of the day, if you have the Son, you have it all! However, if you die in your sins, well!

I was reading an interview between one "Phil" and one "Eddie" and Eddie makes this claim about the Gospel like this:::>

"...The center of Christianity isn’t the cross. The cross was only necessary because of man’s sin. The center of Christianity is the “Father-heart” of God. Before anything existed, there was a Father and His Son...."

This guy Eddie is obviously sauced in something other than the True Gospel of Jesus Christ and True Grace which imparts Eternal Life to those who hear and believe. The guy Phil did not dispute his claim.

I believe there is an intensified effort to bring about a great apostasy among the very Elect. We need stout, strong, clarion voices smashing such heresy and preach the True Gospel and bring clear speech to the hearer so that there is no equivocation or inadvertantly give opportunity to the great schemer who can only roam around seeking unsuspecting souls to beguile either subtlely or boldly.

The Gospel as told by Paul and ministered, means quite a different thing than Eddie's words above:::>

Col 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Col 1:21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
Col 1:22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Gal 6:14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Gal 6:15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
Gal 6:16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
Gal 6:17 From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
Gal 6:18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
