The Real Turretin on: Perseverance and the Law

Josh Lim at Reformed Blogging, has posted a nice selection from the real Francis Turretin on the relationship between Perseverance of the Saints and the Law. (link) As you can imagine, Turretin insists that certainty of salvation does not give us license to sin freely.

aaah, dang! I thought so!

That law of sin and death, grrrrr!

A slave I say, a slave I am, but merry I be:::>

Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
Rom 7:23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Rom 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

I guess that is why it is called the "Happy News"? :)

Hi TurretinFan.

This is a timely post for me as I have been looking at some of the issues in the Lordship controversy.

For years I never learned that there was a perfect balance of law and grace found in the New Covenant. The Dispensational bible church movement is characteristically Arminian, and some parts it antinomian. I think of the "Free Grace" movement that has it's origin in Lewis Sperry Chafer and Dallas Seminary.

Like most error, the trend today in this aberrent doctrine has seen the Gospel's content diminished to the most minimalistic terms. I don't even think that one needs to hear about the resurrection to be saved, according to this Dispensational soteriology in it's more recent form.

How modern evangelicalism has forgotten it's Reformed roots! Thanks.
