Exodus 21:20-21
20And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. 21Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
Battery by one's animal on a slave (apparently, even if the battery results in death of the slave)
Exodus 21:32 If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
(note, however, that the animal is still to be stoned)

28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
(but note that there is a penalty of life marriage without the possibility of divorce)

In a theocracy worshiping another god would be justly punishable by death, however, USA ain't a theocracy. Therefore, I would conclude that it is not rightly punishable by death now. In fact the USA isn't even a "Christian nation" (whatever that is supposed to mean). I agree that God was/is always just in his doings. Yet even in the O.T. crimes did not always receive what we would think of as their just reward, i.e., David's murder and adultery were not punished. He seemed to give himself kingly immunity. So the "every" in Hebrews must be like the "all" elsewhere in Scripture, not universal, but of every kind.
That comment is wrong for so many reasons:
a) Worshipping another god was not punishable by death - turning aside from the worship of the true God, to worship another God was punishable by death (i.e. the crime of spiritual adultery);
b) God never directly governed Israel, as Hebrews points out. Thus, even OT Israel was not a pure theocracy;
c) The Torah anticipated the period of Monarchy;
d) The first two sentences are the fallacy of denying the antecedent. It is true that spiritual adultery would be justly punishable in a theocracy, but it does not follow that if we are not in a theocracy, spiritual adultery would not be justly punishable;
e) The USA is still a Christian nation, despite the attempts of pluralists and the NEA;
f) You must be forgetful about David's punishment for his murder/adultery: read 2 Samuel 12;
g) Hebrews - of course - is saying that the law ordained that crimes would receive their just punishment (quite frequently, death), not that the law was administered properly. Recall the Jews practice (documented in Scripture) of administering one less than the ordained number of stripes to a man who was to be beaten; and
h) Of course, yes, the "every" should be taken generally, not exhaustively - but it would not follow from that view that some of the crimes in the Old Testament were ordained to be punished with excessive severity.

Yes, but the artificial rating was already about as low as it can get (perhaps exactly as low as it can get).
In any event, to bear testimony to the whole counsel of God, it is well worth the price of a few computerized rankings.

(1) On what basis did God put away David's sin? Was it a pre-emptive application of the merits of Christ?
(2) Were the Canaanites obligated to keep all of the law as well? Was all the stuff about bestiality and homosexuality written on their hearts and consciences?
