"Debated ... Over Sixty Times" Claim Still Up At Liberty.edu

Although Liberty University has altered the bio page for Ergun Caner to remove the claim that "For the past twenty years, he has debated leaders in twelve major world religions, including Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, Bahai, Mormons ... " there are still several places where the claim that Caner "has debated Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Baha’I over sixty times at universities and colleges" can still be found (here)(here)(and here) These all appear to be various versions of the 2009 "Viewbook." We presume this will eventually be removed, since there does not appear to be any evidence to back up the claim of 60 debates. In fact, no one can seem to find video of even 30 debates ... or 20 ... or 10 ... or 5. If anyone reading this blog is aware of some video or audio of Caner actually debating someone, please let me know. The closest I've seen falls into the category of interviews featuring both Caner and a Muslim (example).

That's why I took the still photos and put them in my video.

How about those camera shutter sounds? Cutting edge recon work there. ;-)

I don't assume that Liberty U. knew, I presume that if the claims from Caner are not true, Liberty U. was as much duped as anyone. So, I don't really have a problem with them cleaning up their website.

What is this now, a new segment of "To Tell the Truth"?

Will the real Dr. Ergun Caner please stand up and be identified?

I am pretty sure I've seen Ergun Caner in the past at the Panera Bread next to LU. What would you guys say to Ergun Caner if you accidently bumped into him in Lynchburg? Would you say anything? How about "Haven't I seen you on Youtube? Love the tie and the books on the desk" ha ha Or, "wasn't that you on the side of the road the other day with the nice policeman"?

You need to understand how college websites work. They are HUGE....absolutely huge. LU has a very nice website, and I imagine they use something called a Content Management System. (CMS) Each department is responsible for their own web content and department heads have the final say on what gets authorized. In other words, John wants to edit something on a webpage. He writes it, submits it to the CMS, and Suzi the supervisor gets a notification that John submitted something and she clicks "yes" approve this, or "no" or sends it back to John with requested changes. If she clicks "yes" it gets posted. Ergun Caner probably has rights to his area of the website, and could change his own bio. I personally think that is what happened. But over the years, as Ergun spoke at events, etc...others would copy his bio info for their webpages, and the info got replicated several times. Ergun does not have the permissions to edit those pages as they aren't part of his area. He would have to ask someone to remove or edit them for him.

If the real Ergun Caner and I met in person, I'd ask him if he would be willing to talk. In fact, if the real Ergun Caner has Skype and would like to talk via the net, I'd be more than happy to talk with him, as a Christian brother. What I'd have to say to him would be private - I've already said the public things on this blog.
