Is Lying a Moral Issue?

Dr. Norman Geisler seems to have the impression that lying is not a moral issue. Here are some verses that would suggest otherwise.

Psalm 119:163 I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.

Ezekiel 13:19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?

Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Hosea 4:1-2
Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Isaiah 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

Provers 13:5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

I'm with you. I think lying is a moral issue: ". . . For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:34-37 NRSV).

I am beside myself as I watch these men try to justify a man's lies. Call him to repentance. If he should repent, forgive him, restore him to fellowship, but do not justify his lies.

Didn't Norm write a book on Christian ethics in 1989 that was recently revised and re-published in 2010 by Baker Publishing Group?

Why yes; yes he did!

I wonder if Dr. Geisler thinks gross hypocrisy is a moral issue?

You Biblical references show to me, at least, that Dr. Geisler is lying to himself and if he continues down this line of reasoning, he will be deemed a liar and excluded from the Kingdom of God seeing no liar has a part in It or with Them!

Death to liars that they might live in the Life Everlasting!

No death, no Life in God's Kingdom prepared for those who Love Him!

Luk 20:18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him."

That is how all sinfulness is dealt with, one way or the other!

To those who "hear", falling on that stone is clearly the only option whereby one is broken to pieces!

I am just wondering if this situation as it is falling out before us is another Psalm two affair?

Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
