Shroud News

An ancient shroud has been found (link to story). One passage of the article was especially interesting:
Gibson said the remains of the man covered in the cloth consisted of different wrappings for the body and the head, which was consistent with burial practices of the era. He also said research had shown that the weave of the cloth was a simple one, much different from the more complex Shroud of Turin's.
The reason I thought this was interesting was that we know for a fact that Jesus was wrapped as in the article, not as the shroud depicts things:

John 20:6-7

Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

It should be pointed out that the shroud of Turin is one of those fringe areas of Roman Catholicism where "the Church" makes not guarantees about the authenticity but accepts devotion to the shroud as pious:
The Shroud is a challenge to our intelligence. It first of all requires of every person, particularly the researcher, that he humbly grasp the profound message it sends to his reason and his life. The mysterious fascination of the Shroud forces questions to be raised about the sacred Linen and the historical life of Jesus. Since it is not a matter of faith, the Church has no specific competence to pronounce on these questions. She entrusts to scientists the task of continuing to investigate, so that satisfactory answers may be found to the questions connected with this Sheet, which, according to tradition, wrapped the body of our Redeemer after he had been taken down from the cross. The Church urges that the Shroud be studied without pre-established positions that take for granted results that are not such; she invites them to act with interior freedom and attentive respect for both scientific methodology and the sensibilities of believers.
- John Paul II, 24 May 1998 address at Turin
And again, the same day, in another address:
I am pleased once again to greet everyone present, starting with the Archbishop of Turin, dear Cardinal Giovanni Saldarini, together with the Bishops of Piedmont and the civil authorities present, including the representative of the Italian Government, to whom I extend a special greeting. I greet the clergy, the religious, the committed laypeople and all those present, especially the pilgrims who have come with devotion to pay homage to the Shroud.

I have found, speaking of myself, that my nature is false!

Yes, I have been shaped by this world's god, who is, coincidentially, a liar from the beginning.

My fudging, if allowed to continue ends up like a transit shooting a line. If the base is false the target will not be hit.

So it is with the slightest fudge or "lie" or as my Mommy would say, "a little white lie is still a lie, you liar"!

So, being honest and truthful here, it makes perfectly good sense to me, having been bent already by the god of this world, that his agents, fudging Truth for a purpose would make their "idol", the Shroud of Turin something it is not. And the story then confirms several other things of "just what happened" at the "tomb" of the rich man.

For instance, this:::>

Mat 28:11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place.
Mat 28:12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers
Mat 28:13 and said, "Tell people, 'His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.'
Mat 28:14 And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble."
Mat 28:15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

What can we learn from this portion of the "True" record established by the Holy Spirit to keep us moving down that "straight" Line?

Well, let me jump ahead in time a bit and show you another "corruption" of human nature:::>

Act 24:24 After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
Act 24:25 And as he reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, "Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you."
Act 24:26 At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him.
Act 24:27 When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And desiring to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

What we learn, in my opinion, is human nature does not change just because you have been accepted into the Family of God. No, human nature, the old nature, if it is not kept under wraps, will weasel up it's corrupt ugly head. In these two instances, we see that money was the motivator to keep the "Truth" from being fully known!

When we are dealing with anything RCC, we must remember "who" the god is behind the religion and religious order!

Thank God Jesus died for the ungodly, such as I am. Now, I am not getting better, as in, join my church and you will get better! No, I am not getting any better. I am the same old wretched sinner I was the moment God chose to open the mind of my spirit to understand His Holiness!

Now, I reckon myself dead to sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ, My Lord and avoid all practices of pious idolatry, such as giving my heart and soul to the adoration of relics like the Shroud of Turin!

I posted this article on my FB wall earlier today (the BBC World News version - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8415377.stm ).

My FB comment for this article: "For anyone severely disappointed that the Shroud of Turin is a fake: don't be dumb - place your faith in the infallible gospel, not a rotting piece of clothe."

That pretty much ends my thoughts on this matter! lol
