Voddie vs. Feminism

I found the presentation provided by Pastor Voddie T. Baucham, Jr. to be solid. Later, I found this link to more information about him (link).

The presentation follows:

One gospel preacher pitted against Kyra Phillips (of CNN's Newsroom) and Margaret Feinberg (an "evangelical speaker"). One does not envy his position. Nevertheless, Pastor Baucham wisely stuck to advocating Scripture.

Can we have this lively debate on every t.v. broadcast once a day for about ten years?

Let's not stop with that!!!

So much was opened up to my mind in those seven short brief moments! How can these things be?

That was awesome. A pastor speaking the truth of the Word in front of national TV. TF, thanks for this post.

Good to see a preacher sticking to his guns on what he believes Scripture states. He doesn't seem to be a sensitive-seeker pastor. I completely agree that women are not to govern in the church and at home, but do you think that means in jobs also? I'm a nurse and many times I'm the charge nurse over male and female nurses. Also, we have a women director over our floor. Somehow I don't see that as breaking the command in those verses. So if I can govern men by being the charge nurse, I don't see how Sarah will break those commands by being the vice president. Just wondering what you all think about that.

luvvom,

An argument from our culture is not very persuasive to me. I'm not compelled, for example, to believe that because our society permits women to be in charge of men routinely, that consequently there is nothing wrong with that.

In general, it is not in accordance with the Scriptural norms for a woman to have authority over a man.

There may be some excuses for the sort of voluntary submission of a male employee to a female supervisor, and it may be that in this society, that's just unavoidable.

On the other hand, setting up a woman to be the ruler over the nation brings shame on the nation. And I don't mean to pick on Palin - it's nearly as bad to have Pelosi where she is. Palin would simply be one step worse, just as Hillary would have been two steps worse.

luvvom,

I got your post. I'm hesitant to post what looks to be your copying of someone else's work - as well as hesitant to post ad hominem comments, particularly when Mr. Reed is not around to defend himself against the accusation that the copied portion of your post makes.

It's in progress.

A few clarifications/retractions and the like are in order:

a) Mr. Reed (the author of the letter to which Matthew provided a link) is a person may have some serious faults, including the fact that apparently he is unwilling to submit himself to the rule of any group of elders that he has found (I should point out that I make this statement without personal knowledge - if I am wrong, I hope someone will correct);

b) Bringing up Mr. Reed's faults is specifically the thing I was calling ad hominem, although I can appreciate that it was not intended to be used as the crux either of Sarah's argument (via adoption from her pastor) nor of her pastor's original email.

c) There are some interesting arguments that Sarah's pastor has raised, which I hope to address in due course via this blog - but not in this comment box.

d) I apologize to Sarah for making it sound like she was doing something wrong - it was not my intent to suggest that. Instead, it was simply my concern not to disclose in public what the original writer may have intended to be kept secret. I was concerned that Sarah's action was inadvertent, not malicious, but I apologize to Sarah for not making that clear.

Why are you asking me, SMG, if you want to know what the Scriptures say, read them and try to understand them.

I'm asking you because I'm curious to know how your views on patriarchy extend into the public sphere -- or not.
